The CSI Format Directory Options are handled through a tab on the Portfolio Settings screen. This can be accessed through the Portfolio menu when creating a new portfolio or by selecting the "Edit Portfolio Settings" option.

Files Per Directory

QuickTrieve and many third-party charting packages can process a limited number of files in a single directory (folder). UA normally limits CSI-format directories to 120 files each to accommodate these packages. This option is first set when you add a new portfolio to UA, and is subsequently controlled through the "CSI Format Options" tab of the Edit Portfolio Settings screen. Reach it through the Portfolio menu or by clicking the [Edit] button in the Portfolio box.

If you know that the 120-file limit is not needed for your application and you want to expand this value, click the radio button next to 999. This will raise the maximum number of files in NEW directories to 999. It will not affect existing directories on your drive.

Should the number of files needed for a given directory exceed the limit shown here, UA will automatically create a new subdirectory that repeats the current directory name. For example, if your directory called c:\quick\grains were to exceed its limit of 120 files (due to new contracts trading), then UA would put the new files in a directory called c:\quick\grains\.

When Directory Is Full

When your CSI-format directory reaches its capacity of either 120 files or 999 files (see above), then UA will create a new directory to hold additional files.

The three options on this screen show examples of how these new files may be organized:

·Make subdirectories (c:\ua\files\nasdaq\nasdaq) This choice creates ever-deepening layers of subdirectories (folders), each of which shares the same name and is identified only by its position within the directory (folder) system.

·Enumerate directory N (c:\ua\files\nasdaqN) This choice creates a succession of numbered directories (folders) within the same subdirectory, each bearing identical names except for the ending number, such as nasdaq1, nasdaq2, etc.

·Enumerate subdirectory N (c:\ua\files\nasdaq\contN) This choice is a combination of the above two options. It creates all new directories within a single subdirectory of the first subdirectory and enumerates the directory names. The result is just one additional layer in your directory system and serially identifiable directories. Note that as these directories become full, additional layers will be created within them.

Make your choices and click [OK] at the top of the screen to save all your changes.
