Direct Dial Access
Previous  Top  Next

If you are unable or unwilling to use Internet access (the preferred and default selection), you may retrieve daily updates and replacement CSI data in a modem-assisted, direct-dial phone call. This method is less favored than Internet services for updates, as it usually involves a long-distance telephone bill and is considerably slower.

The user, not CSI, is responsible for any telephone charges associated with data retrieval from CSI.

For a Direct Dial retrieval session, make sure "Direct Dial" is listed as your Download Method under "Download Preferences" of UA Preferences and make sure the phone number listed on the Direct Dial screen under "Download Preferences" includes the necessary dialing codes. A telephone line must be available at the time of data retrieval. Once these settings have been customized, you may begin daily updates using regular direct dial service.

·See the Customizing Direct Dial Access topic to view and/or edit server settings.
·See the Regular Direct Dial Access topic for a summary of the daily procedure.

Direct-Dial as Backup Access Method

Direct Dial access also provides a viable alternative for backup data retrieval at times when your Internet server is down, or when CSI's Internet server is undergoing routine maintenance. Even when used as a backup retrieval method, the user, not CSI, is responsible for any telephone charges associated with data retrieval from CSI.

Direct Dial Limitations

Intraday updates used in Position Manager and the QuickQuote service must be retrieved from the Internet are not available via Direct-Dial access.
